CURREN CAPLES - POINTILLISM

Curren Caples by Rana June

The birth of skateboarding dates to the early 1950’s, when surfers in California were looking to occupy themselves when the waves were flat. In the previous century, Georges Seurat innovated painting with compositions made up of tiny, multicolored dots that form an image when viewed from afar. Moving fluently between waves and sidewalks, Curren Caples has a surf-influenced skateboarding style that is both subtle and explosive, a perfect metaphor for Pointillism.
